We have 4 Saabs and a '96 Dodge 2500HD plow truck. 3 9K's and a 9-3. My work CSE has 225K (miles) on it. Switched ALL over from GTX, (which I have used for 30+ years) over to Amsoil 5-40 Eurospec synthetic after attending the "sludge" seminar at SOC '06. That was 2.25 years ago. Now change oils at 5000-6000 miles vs. 3000. Or once per year as in the case of the 9K Aero and the 9-3 cv which are stored half the year and not run much more than 3-4000 miles/year. The Amsoil drains out as "clean" at 5K as the GTX looked at 3K and I "feel" like I am getting better protection for my engines. Use Amsoil synthetic in all the autoboxes also. Noticed better shifting and less friction when cold with the Dodge, (which also has synthetic oil in the transfer case and diferentials). Use GTX in the Aero manual trannie. (tried Saab synthetic, you don't want to go there).
Needless to say, I am a beleiver and a convert to Amsoil. No seal issues, leaks or excess oil consumption. Keep in mind that I changed the work car over at around 185K. I do reccomend an engine flush when you do the change. Also Amsoil in the garden tractor/mower, generator and the golf cart. Of interesting note is the golf cart. I play a lot and our club allows the use of private carts. Our cart is a 16 year old EZ-GO, with the same motor as the clubs 6 year old carts. I change the oil once per year, using the same 5-40 Eurospec that's in the rest of the rigs. Our cart runs perfect and uses zero oil between yearly changes. The 6 year old club carts are junk as of this year running dino oil. Motors shot on most. Valves and rings gone. Food for thought. An no, I am not an Amsoil dealer, but I have considered it.
