Just curious. What sort of EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) instrumentation do you have? I've always installed thermocouples in each exhaust of my aircraft engines, and tune the average EGT in flight for max fuel efficiency/temperature compromise by adjusting the mixture. The results are essentially instantaneous. On the other hand, extended operations at high RPM/high load result in high CHT (Cylinder Head Temperature). Those cannot be changed quickly without risk to the cylinders in an air-cooled engine. In our Saabs the CHT is reflected by the coolant temperature gauge, and our mixture is controlled by the system. Our CHT is controlled by airflow, auxiliary fans, and coolant pump. Anyway, I've toyed with the idea of EGT instrumentation on my 86 9kt's - just to check on the fuel efficiency of the electronics. (And also, perhaps, to satisfy my data-acquisition bug!)
