You conclusions are quite convincing. The fuse that you hot wired is energized by the relay. So when you hot wire the pump, the relay 102 is not between the fuse and the pump. So that cannot be the problem. So it would have to be a problem with connectors if there was any issue with connectivity.

The relay 102 has power to it all of the time. Its coil is powered by the main ignition relay 229. The 102 coil is grounded by the motronic. As with the trionic, the ECU closes relay 102 only when it sees that the engine is rotating. So nothing happens if the crankshaft position sensor is faulty as the ECU does not know that the engine is moving at all. And that is why the system does not raise a CEL, as it has no idea that anything is happening to find fault with.

The fuel pump takes is ground through at G5, under the rear seat, left hand side.

Note that you can measure ohms through the pump from the hot wire point at the fuse. That will be resistance through windings and brushes etc. If you see a lower resistance and pump does not run, that suggests that it is ok electrically but the rotor is locked some how. If it has infinite or quite high ohms, that suggests an open ciruit or brushes that do not contact the commutator*. If you hot wire, and disconnect the ground wire, then you should see 12V between that disconnected wire and ground if there is connectivity through the motor. If there was very high resistance, then a sensitive meter would still show voltage. If you see ohms through the motor to ground, then you know that the wiring is not open circuited. The pump ground is 1.5mm black. But so many ground wires are black that that does not help much. The power to the pump is black/green 1.5mm.

* I actually have no knowledge of this motor's construction.

G5 has many things grounded there, so perhaps it is not possible to know which is for the pump. This ground point might be closer to the door frame and wheel opening.

You might be able to see if there is a problem with the wires at the fuel tank before draining or removing it. But if there is a problem with those, you might need to R&R the tank to do such repairs. Wis suggests that there are connectors right at the pump that would not then be subject to inspection without lowering the tank.

A little indicator lamp at the fuse to indicate power would be interesting, but more of an issue with a CPS problem.
