A piece-o-cake job, would recommend it for a new DIYer.

I bought the "winter exhaust special" from a saabsite classified advertiser -- basically an OEM (Starla) cat-back set. Saturday was warm and sunny and I got the car up on jack stands and crawled under. I knew the exhaust system was trashed, but this was my first really clear look at it. Lots of holes rusted through in several places. Rear muffler was worst of all, with huge flakes (bigger than my hand) coming off at the slightest tug. (When the old parts were off the car I could fold and collapse them into tidy, garbage-can-ready pieces, and clean up the rest with a broom.) Anyway, removal was very straightforward. The sections are held together by metal clamps which rust and fuse with age. This metal is very soft, and I just sliced through it w/ a Sawzall. It's pretty easy (but important !) not to damage the flange on the cat/downpipe piece, which I was not replacing. Then I just hung the shiny new parts, used some anti-seize on the new clamps, and did a little minor bending of the exhaust heat deflectors so they didn't hit the exhaust.

Unfortunately, installing the new system did something screwy which caused a no-start condition. Or so I thought. With the ACC on, there's almost no way to tell that the engine is running ! I kinda miss that familiar vroom-vroom when I start up, but I'm really impressed at how quiet the system is now, even under heavy acceleration. Every DIY project gives me one more reason to love my Saab...
