I cut the chain with a dremel, I asume you can use a hack saw, I guess you can use a chain breaker but I didnt have one, but I know you can rent or borrow one from most dirtbike shops. Then you take the new master link chain and tie it in with the old chain. Lift one of the front tires and put car in 5th gear, slowly turn the wheel (not hard to turn over engine) and make sure you use plenty of zip ties or extra hands and try to keep the chain from getting too much slack or comming off the sprockets! With my expirience in doing this job, one of the cams is going to "smack" around because of the valves springs holding it under tension; if you have to much slack on the rear (return) side of the timing chain.

I did not remove the timing cover, or any components other than the Casset and Valve Cover.

I didnt replace any of the sprockets, wil do so next time if I dont have to pull off the head. There was not too much in the way of visual wear on the sprockets or the old chain (was streched about 2cm). A little bit of wear here and there but you know the car does have 80k on it. There was no massive wear or else I would have changed the sprockets.

The only true visible wear was at the guides but they still had around 30% of their life left, and I plan to change the chain/sprockets/guides in around 40k. I think there are 3, one on the inside of the valve cover, one which the tensioner pushes on, and I think one down by the crank somewhere. I am also going to try ad find out how to change all the timing components for next time - Sprockets, Balance chain and sprockets, Timing chain, Tensioner, Guides, and gaskets for whatever.

Was it worth doing all of this??? probably. The noise is still apparent, maybe around 40% quieter, but at least now I know the timing chain isnt stretched 2cm.
