The small upper belt idler wheel needs to be checked. Easy to inspect and replace. If it fails completely you need a tow truck. So don't delay. This is the third post on this this week.

Search this BB for 'idler' or pully or both.

To inspect, pull the spring loaded slack adjuser back. Then secure it with a pin or nail thru its locking hole in its base. Now move the belt so that this pully does not touch it and see how it spins. If it has some wobble and is loose and spins forever and feels dry, replace ASAP. It is mounted with a single 1/2" or 13mm hex head bolt. About $35 from the dealer.

The idler just above the crankshaft can go too. You will need a cool engine and perhaps the air box removed to get to that to feel how it is doing.

If none of the above seem to be at fault, the belt can be removed and the engine started up BRIEFLY. If the noise persists, it is not from the belt driven accessories and is most likely from inside the engine.
