After having recommended this to folks who'd had the clutch cable break on them, I thought I'd make sure it worked. What do ya know, it does.

Procedure:
Insert key, turn past "lock", shift into first gear, start car.

Results:
Starter pulls car forward, somewhat smoothly, engine fires w/in about one car length, drive away in first gear. From there on out shifting (without the clutch) depends on your prowess and the mood of the trans.

I don't at all recommend this for everyday use, I'm sure the starter just isn't up to it, but were the clutch cable to break on you, well, even first gear beats the heck out of walking or $helling out for a tow.

Before we pat Trionic on the back for this, I should note that my old carburated 5.0 Capri would start up the same way.
