Original timing chain is still in the car. I did have the balance shaft chains removed at 171K (they were noisy) and I told my mechanic to replace the timing chain if necessary. He told me that it was fine. They key is regular service--especially oil changes. Every 5K the car is in the shop for an oil change and a once over. The head gasket has just begun to ooze a bit--just enough to grab dust and make a nasty looking stain on the block. The gearbox let go at 90K (pinion shaft snapped going into 5th gear). Saab bought us a reman box, knock on wood, it's still going strong. I'm having the turbocharger replaced in February--the inner seal is begining to wear, so on really hard acceleration, I sometimes see a cloud come from the tailpipe. But that's OK--I've having a betterT/C installed--one that has the potential to push the net HP rating on the engine to 260 HP (thank you, Mike Connelly!!)
Other than that, there really isn't a lot I've done to the car--drive her the way God, Erik Carlson and Per Gilbrand intended and treat her well. I know that EdG will disagree, but I think 1995 was perhaps one of the best years for the NG--at least for mine!!
