With its Subaru roots, don't expect the upcoming 9-6X to look much like this concept.
LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Saab will build a new crossover SUV based on Subaru's B9 Tribeca. Expected to be badged 9-6X, the car will be built by Subaru at its Indiana factory.
The plant has capacity for up to 15,000 Saabs per year, around half of the number of B9s Subaru is planning per year. The Saab versions will be built for world markets and will be exported to Europe.
The 9-6X's styling has been inspired by the 9X concept, although the interior will be basically the same as the Subaru. At launch there will be one engine option, a 3.0-liter flat six with permanent four-wheel drive. The car has seven seats, though the third row is probably most suited for children.
Saab had planned to show a concept version of the 9-6X earlier this year. When it failed to appear, speculation grew that the project had been canceled, partly because of the slow sales of the Impreza-based 9-2X. But the 9-6X is expected to be shown at the Frankfurt show in September, with production starting shortly afterward.
What this means to you: If you like the look of the B9 Tribeca but can't quite come to grips with buying a Subaru, here's your alternative.

The interior of the Subi? Awful. What is GM thinking? The Tribeca makes the 9-2x look downright Swedish.
