The article only notes that the styling modifications that Saab will make to the Tribeca will be inspired by the 9-X concept. Of course the Tribeca looks nothing like the Saab concept right now--Subaru's designers have created some crazy steel animal on wheels.
So I think what the article is saying is that the Tribeca was not influenced in the least by the 9-X. Rather, the changes that Saab will make to the Tribeca will be inspired by the design philosophy of the 9-X. If we can agree that the 9-X looks pretty kickass, then hopefully a properly Saab-redesigned Tribeca will look marvelous.
As for the Tribeca being nothing more than a minivan, well, you may be right, but to each his own. There are a bunch of seven passenger "SUVs" out there, so what makes this one more of a minivan than, say, a Caddy SRX?
I certainly share your sentiments about this recent spate of rebadging at Saab, but I don't see it as the demise of Saab. I accept the notion that GM is doing this to revive the Saab brand, to infuse it with some much-needed cash and consumer recognition, so that Saab can once again develop its own (quite awesome) automobiles. In the meantime, however, I think there are far worse cars that GM could have instructed Saab to rebadge than the Tribeca. Would you really want to see a Saab Cobalt? Saab Vue? I hope that we won't see any of those, and that this Subaru project is the last one Saab will undertake. Let's see some real Saabs!
