Face the facts, you can't argue with much of what he said. It hurts to like a brand that is currently described in that manner, but sadly, I agree with him.
The shocker to me was that the GM/Opelized NG900 didn't readily pass the Swedish Crash tests back in 94.
I like the lines about product strategy: buy the independent Swedish maker of enviro-friendy well engineered cars, then lay off the Swedish engineers and build middle of the road SUV's in Ohio and call them SAABs. That sums it up.
and
"Blaming SAAB's troubles on SAAB is like blaming slavery on the slaves." Shows respect for the brand but not the brand manager.
I don't think Kitman is obligated to own every car he ever comments on, nor is he obligated to put a great face on a sad situation. In this case, executives from ten years ago bought the company, then retired and took their bonuses, or moved on or got promoted to something else, and now after 10 years of no real attention to SAAB in an ever competitive marketplace bloated with excess manufacturing capacity, a food company exec is brought in to manage the brand (read: salvage something from this mess). You can't shine sh*t, unfortunately.
