Actually, you get called to jury "duty" because you either 1) registered for selective service and are of age, or 2) registered to vote.
So, if you get called to the "duty" of jury duty you must have done one, or both, of the above.
All that said, while abstaining is a form of "voting" (a protest actually - and it is used to point out disagreement - usually publicly - to something that was known to be passing either way - ie no secret ballot in the Houses or Parlament), wouldn't you rather be counted amoungst those who voted rather than the group that would *not* get off their ass and go vote (and I'm talking the "registered voters" not those that didn't even make it that far)? The ones with excuses of being sick, lame, lazy, busy, the group that *way* too often tip the balance for or against a candidate or ballot measure?
And at least you have a vote on where you might fight (or not) and who may get into office (or not), and how much and where your tax dollars are spent (or not). Yes, it's just one vote, but if you vote and the group above doesn't it's like getting more than one vote!
While we may not get excited about either (or any) of the candidates, and sometimes we are just picking the lessor of two evils, but you do get that opportunity!
