The NSS out of the car. Note the faint scratches I made for reinstall alignment. Last modified: Jul 4, 2011 |
The switch open and in PARK. Drilled out the soft aluminum rivets. Note gasket seal. Don't get solvent on the gasket - it swells. This NSS is different than some pictures I've seen. There were SIX independent brushes. Last modified: Feb 10, 2012 |
Brush/contact holders come out and only go in one way. Old grease was pretty dry on contacts and bearing surfaces. Brushes show some wear, too. Last modified: Aug 7, 2011 |
The commutator strips after cleaning with Q-tips. I used a pencil eraser for some of the cleaning. Note different colors on the strips at ends where there is little or no contact (rarely use 1 and 2). Then I hit it with electrical contact cleaner. Last modified: Jul 4, 2011 |
Back in the car. Note new screws and nuts holding it together. Questions: - will it start? will I have back-up lights? (ANS: Yes, Yes.). Last modified: Jul 4, 2011 |
