SAAB 900 TURBO FIVE-DOOR
"FLAGSHIP" OF SAAB LINE HAS TURBO POWER FOR EXTRA PERFORMANCE
The Saab Turbo has been cited as a forerunner of a whole new family of automobiles, cars that offer the performance of those with much larger engines, but still remain as economical and reliable as standard four-cylinder engines during normal every day driving. For 1979 The Swedish Saab 900 line includes two Turbo models, in three- and five-door configurations.
The Saab Turbo engine develops 135 hp (SAE net) at 5,000 rpm and peak torque of 160 ft. lbs. at 3,500 rpm. The weight-to-power ratio is 20.9 lb/hp, and the acceleration as measured by leading automotive magazines is 0-60 mph in 9 seconds flat. The Saab Turbo as sold in the U.S. is equipped with the revolutionary Lambda Guard emissions system with a three-way catalyst.
While the most obvious changes for the Saab 900 have been made in the styling of the front section of the car, some of the most significant changes come in the optimization of the suspension and steering geometry. Under real driving situations, including high speed highway and rally type cornering, the Saab 900 should rank as one of the best handling sedans available.
The Saab 900 series will be available in November through some 33.5 U.S. Saab dealers.
