Alert me when someone posts in this thread:

The premium small car segment, established by the Mini, isn't big enough to justify as is the case with the SUV market and the 9-7X. It's one thing to rebadge a GM vehicle with a chassis, exterior and interior makeover. I think when you introduce the Japanese element, and not enough interior revisions, the product dilution doesn't outweigh the market advantages. That is a 9-7X was a much more effective conversion of an actual GM vehicle. The 9-2X was not a GM vehicle and not differentiated enough. It's a pragmatic decision, they are both rebadges, but the 9-7X was a closer hit in a far bigger segment in which Saab had no entry.

This is one of the first big decisions made by Jay Spenchian, to kill the 9-2X after 2006, there will be no 2007. And I agree with him.

I'm not taking anything away from a 9-2X, it's a much preferrable automobile for many Saabers to an SUV, even a good SUV. A 9-2X is really a world beating, world class high performance machine at a modest price, it just never got enough Saab DNA. A very, very fun glitch in Saab models.

I still betcha' a 2006 9-2X Aero is the Saab 0-60 king of all time, by quite a bit.
