I've made coffee tables out of 2 liter engine blocks before. Have 3 of 'em sandblasted and powder coated and buy a thick big piece of coffee table glass. Anyway I've seen my share of 2 liter engine blocks and the L850 block used in the Saab 9-3SS is big and robust. It's an open deck design with pressed in cast iron liners made with the lost foam Saturn casting proces, so it's a very precise casting. There's a girdle for crank that another 4" thick bolted to the bottome of the block. The footprint of the block is big. It's like there was a VR6 narrow angle inside, but there are only the four pots. Big pots too as the 2.0 is pretty square.
The head is big and bulky too, very stout, as you can see in this picture, maybe
I'm gonna try and make a picture work.
