CPO details..... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Certified Pre-Owned - question for dealers/retailers, CPO, Sun, 3 Apr 2005 00:36:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Saab USA has a program where a Saab dealer can Certify a 2001 and up used Saab with less than 60k miles, 4 years old or less, and 60k or less usually all the way through Dec 31 of that year. The car must meet certain other qualifications, clean title, and I'm pretty sure a warranty buy back or a lemon buyback, which shows on the title, excludes the car. A previous rental is OK as this is not noted on the title.
The dealer purchased the warranty from Saab for about $1,200 cost and the Certification process requires 3 labor hours of inspections and reports, at our Continental Saab $95 an hour that's $285, so the total actual cost is the $1,200 and the 3 hours, or about $1,500 without any mark up other than the profit on the labor.
The Certified Pre Owned warranty is from Saab USA and follows normal Saab warranty procedures just like the original Saab USA factory warranty so it's good at any USA Saab dealer. It's basically the same bumper to bumper, zero deductible, coverage as the factory warranty with the notable exception that audio and telematics are excluded (radio and OnStar) and the natural wear things like batteries, belts, hoses and such also excluded. The battery is a 100% warranty item during the 4/50 origninal warranty, but is not covered by the CPO.
The CPO ads 2 years and 50,000 miles so CPO cars are said to have a 6/100 warranty from when they were new.
The $1,500 for the Saab CPO compares very favorably with the cost of an outside warranty from say the GM Protection Plan for example which would sell retail for $2,590 and have a $50 deductible.
It's a dealer's option to CPO a qualifying used Saab, they don't have to do it, but most do as it seems to be very powerful thing for consumers. Industry wide CPO sales of all brands continues to escalate rapidly.
Once a Saab is CPO, you may elect to delete the CPO coverage and save only the $1,200 cost of the policy from Saab as the 3 hours labor is already spent.
