Per Marc's suggestion, I pulled the SID fuse last night and the display has been restored. My wife says her normal practice is to put the ignition switch in the ON position while refueling, clear the trip computer, then turn the ignition switch off (this is New Jersey, where there is no self-serve gas). She admits it may be possible that she turned the ignition off too early the last time, something that Rick aluded to as possibly triggering his problem.
Thanks much, Marc and Rick.
