I woulda' thought the mileage ratings would be closer on the highway. The higher output 9-5's don't loose any economy. Maybe those Saab engineers know a thing or two about mileage and that's why the Linear is the 175hp that it is? I think EPA estimates are pretty accurate lately.
My guess is that there won't be a 2006 175hp Linear. It'll be 9-3 and 9-3 Aero V6's. The 2006 9-3 can be trimmed as a Linear or an Arc, but the 175hp motor will go away and a premium package of some kind will differentiate the models, and not the engine, they'll all be 210hp.
It really can't cost Saab more to build 'em all 210hp as it's the same number of parts, just configured differently. In fact there may be some savings in not having two different kinds of parts.
Right now GMS for Everyone is darn good if you're OK with a 2005 Linear for it's superior fuel economy.
