Key code can be gotten from any Saab dealer via the IRIS using your VIN number. The code is for the metal shank that goes into the Transponder/remote. The dealer needs the code when he orders a shank. The shank is used as the handle for the Transponder/remote and can be used to open the driver's door via the mechanical lock in the door handle. The shank CAN NOT be used to start the car.

The Transponder/remotes are programmed to the car via TECH II. The new/virgin Transponder/remote can be programmed to ANY car, but once programmed to that car, it can only be used on THAT car and ONLY that car.

9-5, classic 9-3, NG900, 9000 can be purchased used and reused on another car, not so on the 9-3SS. The 9-3SS transponder/remote is different in that info from the car is burned into the transponder/remote during the add process. The burn can only be done once.

You can have up to 4 transponders/remotes program to a car at one time. If you lose one (and if you have at least one working transponder/remote) you could program a new one and have 4 once more. If you were to find the remote (now you have 5), you could use it the your car, but only 4 of them would work.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS bring in all your transponders/remotes when you want to add a key or are having transponder, remote, alarm, lock, or starting problems. If a transponder/remote has to be replaced or you want a new one added, all the other ones must be readded at the same time or they will no longer work.

Good luck,
Steve
