I have driven both. Considered the S60 a while ago. Never really considered the 9-3 Arc as I have a 9-5 aero but test drove it for fun. I would recommend looking at the 9-5 if you are concerned about reliability. The 9-5 Arc is a nice car with a little more room than the 9-3 for maybe $1K more given current incentives. The 9-5 Linear is also an excellent choice and might even price out less than the 9-3SS Arc.

The S60s handling is poor and Volvo and reliability are two words that don't go well together. I also couldn't stand the turbo lag in the S60. The auto transmission in the Saab is far superior. Someday I will get my father and sister to buy Saabs, but they still buy Volvos all the time despite the last 2 S80s my sister owned were in the shop more than on the street.

So -- my vote -- check out a 9-5 as well. You would be surprised what you could get into for the price. Otherwise the 9-3SS is a very nice car - it is a first year run though so keep that in mind. Reading this board I see some people with lots of problems and some with none.
