The quality of the oil is actually not being measured. Based on your driving habits a computer program estimates the quality of the oil. If you change your oil early as you did (good choice) the dealer should not reset the indicated. The dealer can only get paid on a claim for the scheduled maintenence once the oil quality goes below 5%. If you change your oil and the dealer resets the indicator, you will never receive your scheduled service for free.
