Folks who have both a 9-3SS and a 9-5 like both. I mean really, the odds of a manufacturer reading your mind, or anyone elses, a couple of times in a row get more and more remote. Many folks in your boat have purchased their leased vehicles and are quite happy with that. Other than an MCE he new 9-5 is still a 9-5. The 9-5 Aero was basically perfected in 2002. Buy it out, have it CPO's at the time, take the cheap CPO financing too and rejoice, they don't make 'em like this anymore....
Now if you want somethin' new, I gotta' 9-3 for you, all new, different, less exepensive. Do a 2 year lease if your uncertain, the 2006 residuals make that a very attractive option. A new 250hp V6 yeah sure, but I wouldn't dismiss the 2.0T. One trick the 2006 9-5 does that you don't get on a 9-3 2.0T are the 17" wheels. Any 9-3SS handles really well even with out the sport package stuff like shorter springs and 17's, but I like the look of the 17's at the standard ride height on a 9-3SS. You also won't encounter the low front spoiler Aero syndrome.
I think the 2.0T when equipped with the premium package and the real cherry wood accents looks extremely rich, particularly in the parchment interior, but the granite gray looks good too.
Also any 9-3SS has a bitchin' slap shifter the works way better than a 9-5 paddles. For me my shift brain is wired to my arm, not my fingers and thumbs. I love to slap a 9-3SS into the manual gate at 85mph approaching my exit, grab 3rd gear, or even secondd, for a really fun off ramp. That's a little more fun than you can have in a 9-5 for me.
