Not that I don't like Audis, wish Saab did as well on interior bling, but I do believe a 9-3 Aero will smoke it, more power less weight, is much roomier, at least as reliable and quite a bit more unique.

Not that the Quattro doesn't handle "well", but it feels very heavy, 'cuz it is. For me the 9-3SS is much crisper, lots less understeer. I do wish Saab would go "full maintenance 4/50" like Audi, but who cares for a 2 year 24k lease.

The Audi hangs the motor inline out in front of the wheels, clutch and diff. The Saab is transverse, much further back in the chassis, much better balanced than the Audi. Add in Re-Axe rear wheel steering to kill what understeer remains and you'll almost forget the Saab is FWD, low or no torque steer. An Audi sorta' needs Quattro to have decent balance, but with Quattro the Audi is heavier still and plows.

No losers here, both the Saab 9-3SS and the Audi A4 are winners. The Audi is tough competition, great leases. I think if I was goin' German I'd look at the 325-330. I'm not fond of the A4 styling. The new nose doesn't get me goin' and the whole design is somewhat dated and cramped inside. The Saab is fresher, and the BMW is fresher and roomier still.

If I lived or commuted to the mountains, AWD might be a major consideration, but for regular winter folks who mount snows, AWD just means you slide off the road faster. And I'm a SoCal guy anwyay.

I don't undertand the hub-bub about the 2.0T direct injection Audi, but I admit to not driving one yet. It's still shy of the 2.0T Saab in horsepower, torque and smoothness. And Audi direct injection technology scares me.
