Tire pressure

I own a 2004 9-3 Arc and have been somewhat concerned about tire pressure.
In checking my vehicle sticker on the drivers lower door it shows a rating of 41 p.s.i. for the front and 38 p.s.i. for the rear. Is this correct ?? Seems that I read somewhere else that pressures should be in the 36 p.s.i. range.
The ride is a little stiff and I have maintained the 41/38 ratings but am worried I might be over inflating the OEM ,55 series Pirelli P6 all seasons ,that came with the car. What is correct?
Thanks,
Dennis
