It's all perception-since we don't have actual braking distance numbers to verify your claim, it would be difficult to prove that the 2.0T has better brakes than the Aero. Somehow I doubt it. I suspect that the base loaner you drove probably has more miles on it than your Aero-so the pads on the 2.0T you drove have been truly broken in. It takes awhile for new pads on a new car to make optimum contact with new rotors.
The Aeros have larger rotors (Front: 11.81 in., Rear: 11.42 in) than the 2.0T (Front: 11.14 in., Rear: 10.87 in.) and the marginally larger surface area should improve braking power (compared to the 2.0T).
But I'm telling ya, it's the tires. Get thee better tires. All things (pads, rotors) being equal, tires remain the primary determining factor in braking. Better tires (in max performance category) provide better traction, which contribute to better handling and braking.
I may be wrong, but there should be no difference in pedal travel between the 2.0T and Aero (why would there be?).
