$1,200 for 3/36 is too cheap....... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: how necessary is an extended warranty?, Michele, Sat, 7 Jan 2006 21:53:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
That sounds like a "named component warranty" with a large deductible or perhaps only a powertrain warranty. A "bumper to bumper" warranty also called an exclusionary warranty is one that covers everthing with a short list of normal wear things not covered, instead of listing individual parts and groups of parts as in a named component warranty. A new car warranty is a bumper to bumper warranty. A zero deductible bumper to bumper General Motors Protection Plan MajorGuard warranty 3/36 lists for $2,145 and has a zero deductible.
The necessity of an extended warranty is purely personal choice, like buying life insurance, but it's good to know what a first class policy costs when deciding instead of a cut rate policy.
