I know this is too late for Andrew, but I just got my 03 9-3 a few weeks ago. When my wife was pregnant, we got talked into one of the systems (forget the brand name right now). Personally I think it was a waste of money. Thankfully, it wasn't my money, it was a shower gift. Anwyay, you're better off just buying the reat facing seat until they hit 1 year, then spend the money on a good forward facing seat that they can grow into. Here in CT, they recently changed the law, now they have to be in child/booster seats until 6 years. Seeing as it has to last, get a good one.
My main point is my previous vehicle didn't have the Latch system. It is so much easier and more secure with the Latch system. I think any Latch equipped seat (which I think is all of them now) would be a good bet. I looked into one of the Eddie Bauer baby seats, in leather! I thought it might be cool, but it's only availabe in black and I've got the gray seats in my 9-3.
