Traded 03 9-3 Linear w / launch pkg for an 06 Aero. 03 was one of best cars I every owned; virtually no problems at 40,000+ miles except for some early electronic glitches that were quickly resolved. Original brakes. Quality & reliability consistent with wife's 2000 & 2003 Honda Accord EX V6s.
06 Aero is simply outstanding: silver w / grey interior; full pkg except for nav system. Drove stick and auto. Stick entertaining & slick, but I chose auto -- well matched to turbo power, and very nice in city traffic. Manual mode effective, but seldom needed except for decelerating into turns or when you want to play. Consistent w / Mike Lynch assessment.
No delivery problems; car functionally perfect. At 1200 miles, mileage is improving to about 22 in town; 26 or so on road at 75 mph. Performance excellent, with terrific mid-range passing power. Handling superb; rivals BMW, and is about as good as you can get with FWD. 300W stereo system better than earlier version, and very acceptable compared to best others.
In my view, the infusion of GM technology and mgmt has made Saab a mainstream competitor. The 03 and 06 are as good as or better than Audi A4 and Mercedes C-class I had while living in U.K. late 90s. Very high value car. If it continues long-term as it has started, it will be absolutely outstanding.
