However in the early 1980s Saab stated that "lugging" their engines did no harm, and (during those days of the last great oil shortage crisis) even went so far as to recommend using the manual transmission as a 3 speed, selecting only odd numbered gears! I never went that far, but found that 3rd to 5th was a viable choice, especially so with the C900's relatively small gap between 4th and 5th, and the fact that 5th was direct drive through the tranny.
Anyway, doubt that I ever drove at 1300 rpm
