I recently had the same problem with, Scott. My 03 9-3 SS 2.0t flashed the same warning light after I filled up at the gas station. I kept driving. Adjusting the SID eventually got rid of the message. Even though the message didn't pop up over the next 4 days, I brought it into my Saab dealer.
Took 'em a whole week to diagnose and fix things. They took apart the entire steering column and had to replace some electronics & wiring inside. While I don't have the paperwork in front of me, I think the dealer said that either the wiring or a piece of hardware in the steering column had either shorted out, or melted, causing the warning light.
While repair was still under warranty for my CPO 9-3, I was surprised that it took almost a week to diagnose and fix.
Good luck
