I have a problem with my otherwise extremely positive Saab 9-3 SS Linear ownership experience;

My car was bought new about 22 months ago and currently has 55,450 miles on it. At about 30,000 miles, I noticed that the matte black material on the cup holder button was coming off (the black coating used on all of the dashboard and control surfaces). I mentioned this to my service writer when I went in for the car's routine service and they replaced the entire cup holder mechanism. End of problem until...

At 52,000 miles when I went an oil change, I asked them to give me a quote on how much it would cost to replace the little button that controls the fan speed because a big piece of the matte black material had come off exposing the white plastic of the button underneath - very unsightly.

They told me later that the entire button array would need to be replaced and it was "very expensive" and would not covered under warranty.

I wasn't terribly happy with this answer but decided to live with it (I went home and touched it up with black paint. Not perfect but better than a glaring white chunk of plastic in the middle of the dashboard...)

Then today I'm sitting in traffic and realize that another portion of the matte black plastic stuff near the radio on/off knob is beginning to wear thin, and theres two places on the lip of the ashtray where the matte black stuff is beginning to completely delaminate from the surface of the ashtray.

This is completely unacceptable in a car of this price-range and if the problem is left as-is, will make it next to impossible to sell the car later.

Someone please tell me this is a warranty item or is/will be other-wise somehow covered by Saab.

This is our first Saab and I don't want it to be our last - it has been such a pleasure to drive and own up until now.

I'd eventually like to "move-up" to a 9-5 Aero wagon but this is really putting me off to the brand.

Any suggestions/tips/advice?

THanks,

Lisa
