Greetings all,
I wanted to share my experience with my 2003 Vector. I bought it 12/03 for 26.7m. I thought it was a good price. For perspective, I had been a loyal bmw owner, having had a 74 tii, an 83 320i, and 87 325i and finally a 93 325i which i reluctantly sold with 212000 miles on it. From the start i was not as happy with the vector and experienced almost all the problems everyone on this board has related: rattles, frozen emergency brake, heated seats that needed fixing three times, squealing brakes, a failed fuel pump at 18000 miles, etc. The selling dealer (Saab of Greenwich) was always gracious and accomodating. Jim Little, the service manager was as patient as someone could be and eventually got all the bugs out. But at 44,500 miles I did some economic calculations and made a decision to sell. After 29 months and that mileage the wholesale price was 13,750 dollars or just about 50% of original price. For perspective, I had also considered buying a 330i back in 12/03 and it would have cost me 34 pops but would be worth 25000 now or about 70% of cost. Whether it would have had the same issues is unknown.

I was concerned that post warranty my vector would be risky based on its previous history. A extended warranty was at least 2pops. And it would need tires, a tune up, brakes in the next three years which would lower its economic worth to less than nine in three years.

So I traded it. Back to a BMW 325xi (2006). Four years 50,000 mile warranty with all maintenance. Premium package, automatic (for the wife) and cold weather package so it basically has all the features of the vector (plus four whee drive, rain sensing wipers and run flat tires).

One ride in it and i really questioned why I ever bought the saab at all. And i will leave it up to all of you to do the economic calculations on value.

So, goodbye saab. Good luck to all of you. This board has been great and a wonderful help. I am sure I will never buy a saab again.
