Yes, it is a lot of oil. I think I got it for $4.50 a quart at Murray's (0W-40). But at least you don't have to change it very often. I actually changed the oil on my parents' (my former) 2004 9-3 Linear, and then on my 2006 9-3 SC 2.0 T on the same day (last Sunday).

Some tips for newbies to doing their own oil changes (like me)...

- buy one of those oil collector pan/containers which has a spout on it and make sure the spout cap is tight, doesn't come from the store that way
- the drain bolt (16 mm I believe), can be tight (if serviced by a dealer before and corroded over time), so putting the car on ramps helps to get leverage and so does soaking it in WD40
- make sure the engine is not hot because the oil will be too!
- the oil shoots out quite far, like 6 inches
- get the 32 mm socket, (which only come in 12 point, but that works on hex), to remove the filter cap or it takes forever to remove
- buy a 9" extension for your socket or you won't be able to use the 32 mm socket anyway
- after draining and tightening the drain bolt, put a little bit of oil in and make sure that the nut is sufficiently tight and not leaking
- I didn't use a new rubber gasket for the drain nut as it seemed fine. I just coated it with some oil
- I ended up puting 6.2 quarts although capacity in the manual says 6.4

Once I did the first one, the second one was easy and I invested a bit of money, but it will save me over the long haul I believe. NOTE: Some of these tips are from that site somebody put up, some are ones I figured afterward
