Personally, I don't think its as bad as some people make it our to be. Could it be better? Absolutely; but then again, what can't be improved? People just seem to complain for the sake of complaining.
Basically, if you're an audiophile then you're probably going to be disappointed but remember this is a car! If you want perfect sound sit in your acoustically engineered listening room with your $10k speakers and your $20k amp and listen to your hearts content. There are so many variables in a car that make it a terrible place to listen to music.
Again, yes, the system could be better, and the '07s are supposed to get a new Bose system. I'm not sure why they didn't go with the Harmon-Kardon like the 9-5. I for one think it's sufficient – of course, I may have low expectations coming from my 1978 Alfa w/ a not-so-stellar 2-speaker 'hi-fi' radio!
