I can see your point on fuel economy. I've lost about 3-4 mpg on both the hwy and city but the extra power and performance more than make up for the few extra bucks at the gas station. But that's just me. I use the car as a business territory vehicle so I use a lot of gas anyway.
I've had the car for a month, put over 1500 miles on it and have NOT scraped once. Sure I'm more careful, but have still yet to scrape. And my house has a steep driveway that leads to a flat street. Don't know what the fuss is all about. (I've felt underneath the spoiler to check if my wife has and haven't felt anything...yet.)
This is not a new engine by any means. Only the turbo addition is new and SAAB usually knows what they're doing with turbos so I'm not worried about that.
The seats are more comfortable(and much better looking) and the new 6 speed auto tranny is very smooth. I love having the paddle shifters on the steering wheel as well.
I too didn't believe the Aero was worth it until I finally ponied up after the first two SAABS. I wouldn't want to drive any other model now.
