This can work well. I put 225-50-16 *winter tires* on wider BBS RK rims on a 9-5, and I thought that handling was improved over standard 215-55-16 "all season" tires and ride was improved over the Aero 17 inch tires. 225-50-16 has the same cross section and diameter as the stanard 9-3 Aero 225-45-17 tires, so rubbing isn't an issue.
That said, you do need to have the speedometer recalibrated using the Tech II. (select 225-45-17 under "tire size"). Also, consider your goal. If it's better handling than the standard Pirelli P6s, note that there are many performance tires available in the standard size that will outhandle the stock tires.
