We got the Graco Snug-ride, because of the ratings, and have only minor issues with it.
The front passenger seat does, as you mentioned, have to move forward a little bit, but my wife and I aren't very big people so we don't mind.
The car seat base is nice to have. Makes taking the seat in and out of the car simple. Also, the LATCH system makes for easy installation if you need to use it in another car. THe base also has an extendable "foot" so the car seat can adjust to the proper level position.
The one thing I really don't like about the snug-ride is the detachable shade. It's such a cumbersome attachment that when it's on, it makes moving the handle up and down close to impossible. With the handle in the upright position, getting the carseat in and out of the car can be tricky.
We have the Mouintain Buggy Urban stroller, which comes with an attachment for the snug-ride. It's a really nice stroller, especially if you're looking for something that can do it all; jogger, trails, city streets, etc.
Congratulations on the newborn!
