I have a 2003 Linear with 43,000 miles that has been quite reliable. I would say that the key is to go to a Saab dealer and get the complete service records for the car - they can get this with the VIN number. It seems like with alot of 9-3s they have alot of problems or very few at all - if the service records show that the car needed something fixed constantly, I would look for another car.

Also, make sure that all of the recalls have been done - they are all small issues: parking brake fix, seat belt fix, key fob replacement, and some kind of brake tube fix; and that all the software updates have been done. It seems that in many cases alot of the 2003 issues were teething issues, so if you're going for a used car they should have all been taken care of.
