2003 9-3 SS audio upgrade - factory or aftermarket?

I have the 7-speaker stereo with the 6 CD changer in my 2003 9-3 Linear. I've been reading the posts and the consensus seems to be that the upgrade to 13 speakers and the second amp is a questionable value (~$600 for the parts, plus install). I've also read that aftermarket options are limited because of the proprietary connections that SAAB uses. However, I've seen some posts on aftermarket upgrades ranging from adding/replacing some of the stock speakers, and add-on amps and subs like the BassLink. I'd be interested in any opinions on how much improvement can be realized simply by replacing the stock speakers. The 13-speaker, 2nd amp upgrade seems pricey considering the luke warm reviews I've seen posted in the forum. However, some posts said that SAAB has "tuned" the speakers to match the amp. Any trick to finding the right replacements for some/all of the existing 7 speakers?
Thanks,
Mike Kovacs
