Mileage keeps improving with our 9-3SC.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 26 Nov 2006 15:36:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just finished the return leg of what has become our new Thanksgiving Holiday tradition, driving from the Ann Arbor area to Raleigh NC and back. We covered the 740 miles of the return leg in under 11 hours, which included two stops for gas and restrooms, three quick toll booth stops in West Virginia, one quick and one not so quick toll booth stops in Ohio.
I had the cruise control set at 75mph for most of the trip, even in Ohio where speeding on the turnpike with out of state plates is usually akin to playing Russian Roulette! The 75mph kept me steady with traffic in the SLOW LANE today.
Fuel mileage on the middle tank of gas averaged 32.4 mpg! This portion included the best drive of the trip - the hilly twisty section of the West Virginia Turnpike (I-77) between the cities of Beckley and Charleston WV - where I had to adjust my speed upward due to traffic and had the "dinger going off" as the speed alarm kept reminding me I was exceeding 80mph!
I am very happy with the fuel efficiency of this car. If I baby it on a flat stretch of expressway, i.e. 70mph with no A/C running, I will probably exceed the 35mpg I have repeatedly achieved in my 9-5 under similar situations.
The car now has 7,200 miles so I consider it fully broken in.
