No it is no name for the whole group of updates and it is a tedious job to check and update the different modules in a 9-3SS since they have so many modules and each model/car might have different updates.
It is the SPS function of the Tech 2 and the TIS 2000 that you use for this.
If they have hooked up the Tech 2 to your car and read the software and compared to what's in their data base and it comes back that no new ones are available, than that's what it is.
If they haven't done that due to that they don't know how or don't want to, well, it's not much you can do except trying to find another shop that will.
Yes, the dealer will only update the software if the customer complains about certain problems and that the problem description coincide with what the software says it will fix.
I don't understand the reasoning behind that, why only certain cars would benefit from an update or if it because of economical reasons they try to keep it low.
