Ask to see the service records. The automatic transmission issue was the subject of a service advisory sent to 03-04 9-3 owners.

Dealers should be able to tap into the vehicle's VIN number history to see if Saab has a record of the transmission / radiator fluid issue.

Took mine to the dealer for this about month ago, and they did what they had to do. They told me the issue affects some, but not all 9-3 automatics from those years, but that the only way to know for sure if car is affected is to open it up and see.
