My 9-5 runs much better on higher octane in hot..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Yes, this site is frequented by mature and helpful....., Masberg, Mon, 19 Feb 2007 16:32:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
temperatures. Actually, the magic crossover point for my car is 85 degrees F. Below 85 the engine is fine on mid-grade, at or above 85 I get a lot of "turbo lag" or hesitation when accelerating from stops.
One summer day during my 50 mile afternoon commute a few years ago the temperature ranged from 83 to 86 degrees. It was shocking how much difference there was right at the 85 degre F point.
I tried buying premium only for the hottest days, but with MI weather being what it is, and the ECU's adjustment period for changing fuel grades, it was always a bust. Now I buy premium from Memorial Day thru Labor Day - approximately.
Other cars may well be different, and our 2006 9-3SC may not react the same as our 2000 9-5, but premium for the summer only has worked well for me.
