Well, I can think of a few negatives, which don't outweigh the positives.
1. Chance of accident. I wonder if there are headaches trying to fix the car when you have to rush back to the US. In a Volvo message board, someone did get into a car accident with their new car.
2. I like to drive a new car gently. However, on a trip, I like to drive fast. If in Germany, it's ok to drive the rental BMW at 120 mph or more, but not a new car.
3. You have to pay for the car sooner. Possible financing or lease headaches?
4. If there is severe damage to the car on shipping, the car is yours. If it's a new car (not European delivery) and you notice damage, you can choose another car.
5. Some people got free Saab blankets. Not European delivery customers, I think.
