Is it an early or late 2004 model? I just bought a 2004 Arc with 33000 miles and the local Saab dealer printed out the service record for me (maybe yours will too, if you give them them the vin and pretend you already own the car). Mine already had 27 warranty-related repairs---yikes. I'm not really worried though, and I'm going to buy a GM extended bumper-to-bumper warranty. I'm getting an extra 48 months and 48000 miles for $2370. You can get an extra 36/36 for $1820. Got to get it before 36k miles, and before October, or the price goes up (See http://www.gmprotectionplan.com).
If the last 8 digits of your vin is less than 41011608, you can expect the handbrake to lock on (defective handle), and maybe other 2003 leftover problems. My handbrake was repaired 3 times before I bought it. I'm not driving mine yet, but I pulled the handbrake up just to check it--guess what. See TSB 551-2439 utg.2. Search ebay for "Saab wis" and get a low cost service dvd so you know how to release it:-) Get one that covers through 2007 so you get the TSBs. They can be had pretty cheap.
Anyway, I'm going to love this car regardless of some annoyances. I might not like the Linear though because of lower power and cheap radio. The Arc is much-much nicer.
