I think he trying to compare a 2000 9-3se (not a 9-5) with a 2003 9-3.

We have a 2000 9-3se 5 door (4 door hatch) and love it, we have owned it since new and it now has 80K miles on it. So far the repairs have been: DIC replaced, display, and fuel line. Total repair costs are under $1,000 for about 7 years of ownership (not including maintenance items of course).

I can't really speak to the 2003s (other then to say despite the slight HP advantage of the 03 I think the 2000 se is actually a slightly faster car). We have a 2006 Aero and love it - but as others mentioned all the kinks should have been worked out by 2006 (we hope). 2003 was the first model year so might have issues, if it's a CPO that might take away some of the worry.
