I just D-I-Y'ed the six month oil change on my wife's 9-3SC and used Elf Excellium 0W/30 Full Tech synthetic oil which meets the obscure (here in the US anyway) Opel/Saab oil spec for our enignes.

The oil came in a 5 litre jug and 1 liter bottle (6 litres equals the 6-1/4 quarts required in the 2.0T engine) which is convenient, but the 5 litre jug is great! The large jug has a built in extendable pour spout, and molded in finger grips in addition to the handle, to ease pouring the oil into the engine.

As an added bonus, the six liters of Elf from a small local Import Car Parts chain was less expensive than 6 quarts of Mobil 1 0W/30 (meeting the same Opel/Saab spec) from discount retailers.

To answer the inevitable questions regarding doing six-month oil changes, my wife puts so few miles on her car that her "Time For Service" message is activated by the 365 day calendar timer and not the oil life algorithm. Her low miles also means short trips with increased chance of the engine oil becoming contaminated with moisture and acids which are never boiled off.

My 2000 9-5 has accumulated over 202,600 miles and I have always changed its oil at 5,000 mile intervals (which only takes about 10 weeks for me). I hope to get smilar longevity from the 9-3 but am approaching its oil change intervals differently.
