I don't know about 2007's, but other 9-3's (US spec) specifies 90 octane or greater (US octane rating, approx equal to 95 in Sweden).
To me, that's premium with an occasional mid grade ok. If the price spikes up, I'll sometimes add a third of a tank of regular (unleaded). If so, I keep track of the octane in the trunk. Just calculate number of gallons added.
If you're not compulsive, regular use of midgrade is almost certainly ok as the engine adjusts.
I think fuel economy is worse with regular gas, but it's only about 1% less, not enough to justify the cost of premium.
