SDV is non-functioning in many 93's from about 2003-2004. Dealers may think it is "so subtle, you can't even here it working," but that's not true. When it works you can tell it works.

Early EHU's and ICM's did not have the proper software to allow SDV to function. These units can be updated via the SPS function of the Tech2, but you have to find a dealer willing to take the initiative. Saab has never formally addressed this problem in a TSB. It's also not mentioned in the new WIS for 2007.

The EHU can be updated via TIS2000. For some reason the ICM needs TIS2WEB. This was the last I heard from a tech who successfully fixed SDV. A lot of dealers still use the CD-ROM based TIS2000, and they will not believe TIS2WEB would work differently, in which case you're out of luck.

Proper EHU software version can only be verified with a Tech2. The proper ICM software has a visual clue. If you have the 6-disc CD changer and see the "123456" line in the SID, chances are good you have an ICM which is SDV-capable.

The EHU needs to be running SW #12802514 or later.
The ICM needs SW #12804672 or later.

If you pull the EHU or ICM either will bear a factory sticker showing the HW # and pre-loaded SW #. If the unit has received an SPS update, the pre-loaded # will not apply. If you have ever had an ICM or EHU replaced under warranty, chances are good you an older unit refurbished by Delphi. These units may run earlier software than what came new with your car.

You can find a lot more about these software and hardware versions by going here and getting the calibration history for your VIN. You need to know the HW's, or you can just pick and choose and look around. At each HW module, be sure to click on "view history" to see ALL the SW that can run on that module:
